Driver Story

Steven Larsen started chasing drifting after watching a JDM Option video in 2003 and trying to teach himself from there. More than 21 seasons later, he has drifted in 28 states, at more than 100 tracks, and in four countries. He earned a Formula D provisional license in 2008 and attempted two events, but says the car was not fast enough to compete at that level. Steven chose to drift a WRX because he runs a Subaru performance shop, Turbotime. What began as a cheap missile car built from spare parts has turned into a long-running Subaru drift project. The car started as a 1998 Legacy GT converted to rear-wheel drive, then was chassis swapped into a 1996 Impreza sedan used for rallycross, then into a 1999 Outback Sport, and eventually into a retired NASA rally car shell as a 2002 WRX sedan after a major wall hit ended the previous chassis. Steven also drifts a 2017 Subaru BRZ and a 1990 Mazda Miata. His favorite track remains North Course, and stateside he points to MidPond as a favorite. Over the years he has driven a wide range of chassis, including E30, E36, AE86, S13, S14, S15, JZX90, JZX100, BRZ, Impreza, WRX, Crown Victoria, New Edge Mustang GT, Mk2 Supra, Mk3 Supra, 300ZX, 350Z, Cressida, Miata, FC RX-7, Celica, Gloria, Cefiro, LS400, GS300, GS400, Volvo 240, Volvo 740, IROC Camaro, G35, Datsun 510, and S2000. He has built hundreds of drift cars for himself, friends, and customers. At this point, one of his remaining goals is a podium with the team at Final Bout. He is focused on having fun with the homies and helping new drivers build the skills needed to jump into tandem.
